* Antidepressant drugs are often no better than placebos.

* Exercise. Go outside. Walk. Be in the sun. Laugh.
* Low-fat yogurt consumers are four times less likely to be depressed than those who never eat yogurt.
Herbal Medicine (safest first):
* St. John’s/St. Joan’s wort (Hypericum perforatum) - tincture of fresh flowering plants, 2 -10 dropperfuls a day. Avoid capsules.
Most studies use dried, encapsulated herb with great results, but side effects - especially drug interactions. For the same great results, but no side effects or interactions: Avoid capsules.
*Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) - dropperful doses of tincture or sips of the tea have a gradual antidepressant effect.

* Cannabis (Cannabis indica) - female flower buds smoked or tinctured, 3-10 drop doses - interferes with sad/bad memories.
* Saffron (Crocus sativus) - 15 mg twice a day for 8 weeks - as much improvement in mood as those taking Prozac or Tofranil.
