Gaia Orion has received international acclaim for her visionary paintings and for her participation in many worldwide projects that strive for positive change. Growing, Processing, Marketing & Selling Local Herbs

At the McLane Audubon Center, 84 Silk Farm Road, Concord, NH

 
This workshop is a MUST for anyone growing herbs or making herbal products. The morning session (10 am - 1 pm) will focus on growing, selling and marketing local and regional organic herbs. The goal is to strengthen the economy and vitality of locally grown and locally processed herbs. During our lunch break, organic farmers, product makers, shop owners, etc. will have the opportunity to network with one another.

The afternoon session (2-5 pm) will teach small scale herbal product makers to produce products that comply with all the various regulations (particularly FDA GMPs as well as labeling, and organic certification) in a sensible way. Our panel of experts for the workshop will include Jeff Carpenter from Zack Woods Herb Farm, Deb Soule from Avena Botanicals, Wendy Snow Fogg from Misty Meadows Herbal Center, and Jovial King and Colleen Dando from Urban Moonshine. $35/session; $70/day.  20% off registration for NOFA-NH members. $10 optional organic and local lunch (vegan and gluten-free options available) - no member discount on lunch. Greetings, Susun--

I loved your story about Savior Sage in the new Ezine. What a wonderful herb--and so healthy for us. There's a large, beautiful  clump of it in the little herb patch here where I live--one of the neighbors planted it.

In summer, the plants produced wands of the most beautiful, fragrant blue flowers! I cut some, and enjoyed them in a vase-- they actually last quite a while.

I think it's the first time I ever saw Sage in bloom--I've always pinched off flower buds from Sage and Basil, as I'd been told flowers negatively affected the flavor of the herb. Tis is true of Basil--but I'm not sure if it's true of Sage. The leaves seemed to still hold their fragrance--I know the bees will be delighted if you let Basil form flowers!

I like to make a bread pudding of good bread, cubed and dried, to which I add chopped onions, dried Sage, chopped celery if you like it (I do) and vegetable broth to make the mixture quite moist--fresh-ground pepper and salt, if you use them. Oil a baking dish, bake at 325 until browned and crisp on top--delicious with anything!
