Daring Dandelions
by Vivienne Whale Grace
My inner voice whispers pick 6 dandelions
place them on the altar
I listen
I do just that
I'm surprised by their beauty
I who love flowers
never pick dandelions to grace
my table or altar
I consider them too humble
Gone to seed
I walk them slowly from out to in
not wanting to lose the promise
contained in seed
In our closing Circle I am reminded
by a question
"What are the dandelions for?
I put one into each hand
Realization arrives
"you want us to blow them?"
"in here?"
"inside!"
"let's go outside"
"what will Nic say?"
"what about the mess?"
"are you sure"
permission granted
delight blooms from fear
seeds fly softly in the air
carrying our dreams, wishes, desires, longings
