Good Day Susun,
I found u on the internet, got your book at the library and bought "The Menopausal Years. I am 55 years and started hot flashes around 44 years. My mom and sister had it. I really do not want to go synthetic, even with Bio Identical Hormones. As far as I am concerned it is still synthetic.
As of this past Wednesday I started taking a combination of Motherworth and Burdock tincture from my Naturopath, how many drops should I take and when?
The other big problem I am having is vaginal dryness. My partner sais I'm moist, but it feels scratchy and it burns especially when he ejaculates. I asked my Naturopath if she knows of any magical herbs that will produce enough progesterone from my adrenals.......She said to raise progesterone Vitex ( agnus castus) but also said that herbs are not successful in that department, she suggests a tiny bit of the safest estrogen "Estriol" is all that is usually needed , inserted vaginally 10 days and then 2 x a week. What do u suggest ?
In your book Menopausal Years on page 259 Menopausal First Aid, do u mean to use 10-20 drops along with a cup of sage infusion or fenugreek tea, or to keep it seperate? How often a day to minimize hot flashes, insomnia and anxiety, I know everybody is different.
Hope to hear from your soon.
Hi,
Susun is suggesting putting the tincture into the tea for a double dose of help, if needed.
And yes, since everyone is different, if you haven't used these herbs before, I would try them individually first. You can make a sage infusion: http://www.susunweed.com/How_to_make_Infusions.htm
and then dilute a cup by at least a third of water and sip on that throughout the day to relieve nightsweats, depression, etc.
Since the motherwort is in tincture form, think of it more as a medicinal tonic, so only used when necessary. Take a dose when feeling particularly anxious, angry, etc. If suffering from night sweats, you can take a dose before retiring to bed and then another dose anytime that you wake up. Just let us know if you need further assistance.

Thank you Kim,
I don't have night sweats, just sleepless nights, that would be called anxiousness I guess and vaginal atrophy. My partner says I am moist, but it burns especially when he ejaculates, so I am on my third day of trying 1 Tblsp of Flax seeds in water for the next month and would a cheaper brand of Pro-Biotics capsules be ok down there? If it works I am going to spread the word around, as I really trying to avoid Synthetic.
My Naturopath gave me half an half motherworth and burdock and said to use 1 tsp 2Xday, but I have been using 25 drops in a few drops of water once in the morning.....maybe I should use it at night to help me fall asleep?
She loves Susun and went to one of her menopausal workshops years ago, she called Susun an empowered women and sang lovely.
Thanks.
The 25 drops of motherwort in the morning should help with the vaginal atrophy. For the sleepless nights, Susun suggests having motherwort tincture by your bedside and a glass of water. Anytime you wake up, take 10-15 drops of tincture followed by a swallow of water. So it really is good for nearly any type of sleep disturbance, not just if you are having hot flashes. During the day, you can use as needed if you are feeling particulary anxious, 10-20 drops should be good. Oatstraw infusions are good for helping to take the edge of and relax us as well.
In regards to vaginal atrophy, cheaper brand of pro-biotics capsules should be fine. Have you tried comfrey root sitz baths? Make two quarts of infusion and sitz for 5-10 minutes. You can also use comfrey ointment, rubbing some on in morning and night and as a lubricant before lovemaking. Here is a link to one of Susun's articles that may offer some more ideas for you:
