I would appreciate any help you can give me...!
I am having severe menopausal symptoms. I need help!
Before I take anything, I need to tell you I have Hypothyroidism and Hashimotos. I cannot take ingredients that can harm or block the obsorbtion of my thyroid medicine (Armour 90 mgs daily).
I take nothing other than my Armour and occasional advil.
My symptoms:
Severe mood swings - I cannot keep myself from getting so angry over every little thing. This is taking a major toll on my marriage, children (all adult) and friends etc. I cannot tolerate anything.
Hot Flashes/night sweats - I handle them okay, but they are quite bothersome.
Sleep deprivation - I don't sleep through the night and haven't for over a year.
No motivation - I use to work and haven't been able to for the past 4 years. I get so angry, I lose my temper and end up quitting.
Depression - I am up and down and in and out with my thoughts. Nothing makes me happy any more. I cry to easily.
Anxieties - Constant fear of doom, nervous, anxious etc.
Isolation - I stay in my home except to grocery shop. I worry about encountering people and losing my temper. It happens everytime I go any where. This is wrong!
Acne - I look like I am in puberty?
Memory - Can't remember things half the time.
I need help and doctors just want to throw anti-depressants at me. I tried taking low dose HRT for about two months a couple of years ago, it caused me to not sleep (avereaged 2 hours each night), always hungry, gained 15 lbs in a month. I stopped that after about 2 months). Then I found out I had the thyroid problem. I tried anti-depressants off and on over the past 3 years, but they numbed my feelings and made me feel out of control (feeling-wise).
I don't know what else to do. Everyone gets upset with my anger, but so do I and then I have feelings of guilt because I can't control my outbursts. This is not me, I want me back somehow.
What can you suggest that would help me get my life back in order, so I can be a productive person again for myself, family and society?
By the way, I haven't had a menstrual cycle in almost 10 months (Aug. 3, 2005 last cycle).
Can you help me?
Hello, Thank you for writing. I hear you. I hear you want you back, that things have changed drastically over the past 4-5 years. I hear you want things back as they were, and I do understand. It is so challenging and so many other women have gone through much as you are. They have watched themselves change, their bodies change, whtier habits, their moods. It effect their routines around them, and it effects their relationships. I can share some articles you may wish to read:

I imagine this may be a lot of information. If you start with one first I suggest the first listed. Otherwise pick the issue that is most pressing for you. Usually working in one area will have ripple effects on others. You are a productive wonderful person. You are going through a change, and you now need support. At least from yourself if not also from your family. In addition to any herbal or dietary additions you may make, and a shift in how you perceive all that is going on, you may wish to allow yourself to be indulgent and take some time to be gentle while you go through this. I understand the possible fear though, that then this might go on forever.
I would also love to invite you to our Wise Woman Forum and Email groups accessed through www.wisewomanweb.com as further sources of ideas and support.
