Q: Dear Susun,
Thank you for the information that you give so freely, I appreciate it very much.
I am experiencing the beginning stages of menopause and so far I have been successful with minimizing the symptoms. My biggest concern has been fatigue and weight fluctuations. I am now faced with a problem I haven't been familiar with and I would really appreciate some feed back from you. I am experiencing some vaginal dryness and itching but I am also experiencing problems in my anal area and farther up between my cheeks. I have had extreme sensitivity and some fissures in the area on and above my tailbone. Does menopause also cause thin skin in that area and if so what remedy can I use? I went to my doctor about this and was told to use diaper rash ointment. That didn't work and it is messy and smelly. PLEASE HELP! It is very painful and embarrassing.
Thank you
A: Hello, thank you for writing. I will share your kind words with Susun. She does not have internet in her home so is not able to correspond through email. I am not completely sure about what you have but have come across a couple situations that sound similar. In one case I believe it was yeast infection and in time relief was found through several soaks of the area in good quality live plain whole yogurt. In another case I believe it was much like the vaginal dryness that comes for some through menopause. Some of the same remedies in the linked article can also help. In this person's case what was soothing was some herbal oils - particularly comfrey leaf oil and calendula oil. Yarrow oil provided some relief but at times was stinging. Plantain leaf oil seemed also to provide some relief, but the first two mentioned seemed to resolve it up until this point. I hope some of these ideas help.
Blessings,
Karen Joy

I have had the same problem but cleared it up by putting my antiperspirant on the rash each day when I do my underarms.
