Yellow Dock Seed Vinegar
Fill a jar about ¾ full of the seeds, then fill it to the top with vinegar.
Cap with a plastic, rubber, or cork lid. Label.
Wait six weeks and use.

Toe fungus

Hi Susun,
I read your article, Pine Keeps You Fine and noticed you used pasteurized ACV for your pine vinegar.
Is it ok to use unpasteurized ACV and if not why?
Love the info. I live in Pine, AZ and was glad to hear Piñon is a milder variety in terms of resin.

Hello Matt,
There is nothing wrong in using unpasteurized, however Susun prefers to use pasteurized ACV as raw vinegar combined with the plant material has a tendency to go bad. Susun will also use unpasteurized ACV and then pasteurize herself: " I buy a gallon at the store, bring it just to a boil in a non-metallic pan over a high heat, then let it cool, and finally put in back in the original container, now marked so I know I have pasteurized it. Raw vinegar and herbs can combine to make strange (stinky) alien beasts!"

Dear Susun,
Please, can you help me?
I have a terrible fungal infection on the instep of my foot (called bullous tinea pedis). I am breastfeeding and I don't want to use doctor's drugs anyway.
You wrote that apple cider vinegar is one of your favourite antifungal remedies. How do I apply it? Should I soak my foot in it? Please can you help. I am quite frightened and don't want to lose my foot.

Yes, you can soak your foot in the ACV, usually diluted anywhere from 1 part vinegar to 4 parts water to 1/2 and 1/2, twice a day, at least 15-20 minutes. Can use plain ACV or have the vinegar infused with either red clover or yarrow... Some people use vinegar straight, applying with a cotton ball over affected areas. I would also try yarrow tincture spray on feet as well.
Also from Susun: "In order to kill the fungus in those places, wipe out shoes with vinegar and place in the sun to dry. For socks, sheets, towels, rugs (yes the fungus hides in all those places and can stay alive there for years), wash well, wipe or rinse with vinegar and dry in the sun if at all possible. A few days of "hysterical hygiene" should insure that the fungus will get gone and stay gone."
Internally, I would try dandelion root and/or burdock root tinctures, make sure to keep your immune system strong, incorporating mushrooms, seaweed, etc. into diet. Here is some of Susun's thoughts on that:

Again, I would do the soaks a couple times a day if possible, and try to let go of the fear. Be patient, keep your immune system strong, foot treated, clean and dry and you should see improvement.

Hello,
I am very confused and concerned about the role of apple cider vinegar in a healthy diet and I am hoping that you will respond
It seems that vinegars are used to draw minerals from animals bones to make stocks.
What do vinegars do in our bodies?
Some suggest taking some apple cider vinegar at each meal ( 1/2tsp in 2 oz water) to help digest fats- but what about one's bones?
Some suggest soaking beans and grains in apple cider vinegar if one does not eat dairy. Again, I ask, how does this affect the minerals in our bones?
Is it really wise to consume so much apple cider vinegar on a daily basis?

Hello,
Susun recommends regular use of herbal vinegars. Most of us take ACV and steep various herbs in it to create an especially mineral rich vinegar excellent for bone health, digestion and various other issues. One doesn't need a lot - a spoonful tossed on greens, beans - perhaps mixed in water, but we view it as a wonderful way to help support good health. Rather than taking minerals away, herbal vinegars enhance absorption, making bones stronger, not brittle.
