Hello,
I have read your articles many times and love them , I too and trying to learn to make my tintures and learn the weeds and flowers i can use out of my back yard ,
My question is I know you can use the purple coneflower for Echineacea can i use the yellow coneflowers as well and white or is it just the purple we can use as an herb? Also what proof vodka do i need to use and can you use moonshine , I see the tv show where they make it and are selling it is it the same as using vodka?
Thank you
Roni
Hello Roni,
Always look at the latin names when dealing with herbs - that way you can always be sure of using the correct plant. From Susun: "The easiest to grow is Echinacea purpurea. More difficult to cultivate, but the most medicinal, is Echinacea augustifolia (or angustifolia). But the roots of all the echinaceas, including the rare E. pallida and the fancy new cultivars, contain anti-infective alkaloids which are easily extracted into water and/or alcohol."
You can read more about using and making your own medicine at Susun's article here: http://www.susunweed.com/herbal_ezine/September08/wisewoman.htm
