Hello Susun,
I am 37 and have been experiencing very distressing symptoms since May 2011. I was walking up a hill, and suddenly at the top my heart was racing so fast, I thought I was going to faint. I couldn't catch my breath. I have been a smoker for years, and am a single mom of 4... Since then, already now 6 months any activity that requires stamina, endurance, or strength, I cant really, because I get that lung constriction, and heart fluttering feeling which puts me into panic, I have been avoiding hills, and have to walk up stairs very slowly. This past summer, I could not go out because there was no air flow, and my lungs are already very dry I feel. I know I am constipated, and my hormones are out of whack, and obviously my lungs are dry and congested. I guess it just did not happen all one day, but was a steady build up process. I am completely in a place I dont want to be.
Could you please give me some recommendations?
Thank You So Much...
Hello,
Are you still smoking? If so, Susun Weed’s response:
"Tobacco is highly addictive and you can beat it. Get an extra edge on quitting by nourishing yourself with a handful of freshly toasted sunflower seeds and a cup of nettle or oatstraw infusion daily for 4-6 weeks before you stop smoking. Sunflower seeds reduce cravings for nicotine by filling nicotine receptor sites. Nettles and oatstraw strengthen nerves and cushion the impact of withdrawal. Nourish yourself the Wise Woman Way when you want tobacco:
• Take an oatstraw bath
• Eat a wild salad (even if its only one dandelion leaf)
• Bring home a flower
• Let someone cook dinner for you
• Go to a yoga class or a martial arts class
• Buy something for yourself instead of cigarettes
• Miss your smoke break? Take a break for pleasure!"
There could be a number of things going on... Certainly you are in a stressful situation, raising your children alone and having lost your husband. It is possible that a great deal of the fluttering, etc. can be coming from an emotional state. If it were me, first thing I would start doing is drinking plenty of oatstraw infusions, which can help to ease the nerves. Also mullein infusions- mullein is a strong lung supporter and is wonderful for helping the damage done by smoking. You may also want to look into motherwort tincture as well - to help with both heart issues and for emotional issues, comfrey leaf infusions for keeping lungs and respiratory tract healthy, nettle infusions for general health, adrenal support and energy.

Elecampane is Susun's favorite herb for removing pathogens from the lung tissues. Usually used as a tincture; the dose is 5-10 drops up to 4 times a day. Mallow root is cooling and moisturizing and may be something to explore. Here is one of Susun's articles on lung health: http://www.susunweed.com/herbal_ezine/june03/herbalmedicine.htm
As you mentioned, it usually takes a long process to get to the point where you are now and it will take another process to find yourself where you need to be. You have to nourish yourself as much as possible - both physically - eating healthy whole foods, drinking herbal infusions on a daily basis - and emotionally, perhaps finding a support system if you don't have one at the moment, whether someone close by or even an online group of some kind can facilitate healing. Try to be patient with yourself and the circumstances, believing that your body can heal itself. You may want to check out our forum at www.healingwiseforum.com.
