Susun,
I am 62 and recently got a terrible case of shingles. I need help and have read many articles about how to deal with it. Someone sent me your article on the immune system.
Thought I would write you and ask if you have any specific info on shingles.
Thank you...
Hello,
First thing to try would be St. Joan's (St. John's) Wort. Using the infused oil topically and the tincture internally. From Susun: "St. Joan's wort oil is also the best remedy I've found to relieve the pain and promote rapid healing of nerves and skin troubled by shingles...... Hourly applications of oil, plus 25 drops of tincture taken internally at the same time, is not excessive in the initial acute stages fo these problems. As symptoms abate, I use fewer applications."
Some other options to help would be skullcap tincture and/or lemon balm tincture. Make sure to drink plenty of oatstraw infusions which are beneficial to the nerves. I would suggest checking out at our health forum in case someone there has some more suggestions: www.healingwiseforum.com.
blessings,
Kim

Dear Wisewomen,
I need your help. My mother, 78, has a blood disorder form her bone marrow and she produces too many platelets. She does not have leukemia. The medication her doctor is giving her (hydroxyurea) can make her violently ill, plus tired, depressed and low energy. She is sick of taking this medication and we were wondering what Susun and her brilliant group of herbalists would do instead. By the way, it's not like this medication is lowering her platelet count to normal levels, just keeps them from creeping even higher.
Thankful for any suggestions,
Patricia
