Susun,
I am curious if you know where I could get these herbs at?
Hypericum Mysorense
Hypericum Hookerianum
Thank You.
Hi,
Not sure of a source for these two species of hypericum.... Have you called either Frontier Herbs or Mountain Rose Herbs to see if they offer it? Also Richters sells live plants of many varieties. Have you tried using hypericum perforatum? This is considered a most potent variety and is the one usually sold in herbal products. Just let us know if you need any further assistance.
warm regards,

Kim,
Here is why I was asking specifically about these herbs:
http://icmr.nic.in/ijmr/2004/0702.pdf
Hi,
H. perforatum has shown effectiveness against HSV-I in clinical studies. Very potent in both antiviral and antibacterial properties and I would certainly try it in such a situation. Tincture seems to be more potent than tea and tea also increases sun sensitivity which neither tincture nor oil use do. Certainly it is possible the other ones mentioned have shown more effectiveness with HSV-I, but I do not know of any sources for them. I feel it would be worth your time to try and see if you have any success with perforatum. If you are set on the other species, have you tried any ayurvedic companies or practioners that may be in your area? They may have a source since these studies and tests originated from India.
Here are a few other options:
"In my community, poke tincture is a favorite for sore throats, strep throat, severe colds and respiratory infections. It’s also used for infected gums, swollen lymph glands and breast cysts. Studies in Germany and the United States are even finding positive results with HIV, cancer and lymphoma. In addition, it’s very effective in treating genital herpes -- taking just a few drops when the tingling begins usually prevents the blister phase entirely and reduces the frequency of outbreaks."
Poke root tincture would most likely need to be made yourself as it is hard to find but Red Moon Herbs often offers it.
Also the studies showed success with Usnea - this tincture is usually available online and at health food stores. http://www.susunweed.com/An_Article_wisewoman3d.htm
Since this is a virus, it is always best to nourish overall health and strengthen ones immune system. Daily use of herbal infusions, avoiding white flour and sugar and making sure you get plenty of whole grains, essential fatty acids from fish such as salmon and sardines, vegetables and organic meats and dairy can only help with reducing frequency and severity of outbreaks.
