Hello,
Susun's book "Menopausal Years" is my bible. Thank you! I drink nettle and oat straw infusions every day. I'd like to try spring-gathered horsetail for periodontal disease and bone loss in my teeth, but I'm having a hard time finding organic spring gathered horsetail.
Could you please tell me where I can find it?
Also, I make my infusions in quart canning jars, how much horsetail should I use in a quart jar, if you could tell me how much in terms of fractions of a cup, that would be really helpful, because that's the only form of measurement that I have.
Thanks so much for your help.
Hello,
I can give you some online sources that we have dealt with and trust - one of these should have horsetail, if you cannot find it locally at a health food store:
Mountain Rose Herbs
Red Moon Herbs
Frontier Coop
As for making an infusion, hard to break it down by fractions of a cup. If you end up purchasing at a healthfood store or one of the online sources, it is already weighed out in ounces/lbs. so that should make it easy for you. I don't know if by cup you are talking about dry or liquid measurements and there is no standard conversion between weight and volume unless you know the density of the ingredient.
I would simply go by the simpler method that Susun espouses - In her book, Healing Wise, for leaves, she equates one ounce to 2 handfuls of cut-up leaves or three handfuls of whole leaves - so this would be the amount for one quart jar. Just let me know if you need any further assistance.
blessings,
Kim
