Dear Ms. Weed,
I resonate with your Wise Woman Way.
I have had the privilege of speaking with you on the phone several times over the last few years and your Wise Woman's Way menopause book is still, at age 67, my healing bible. I continue to make your 5 herbal infusions and alternate daily as you suggest.
I recently moved from California to Portugal where my stepmother has left me her house on the ocean. A good please for introspection and healing.
Would you be so kind as to shed some light on some of my health dilemmas?
1. I understand that you do not recommend cleansing. How do you feel about the need to remove amalgam fillings from the teeth because of mercury poisoning? This seems to be popular now.
2. I have been using skull cap and St. John's Wort tinctures for inflammation reduction and pain reduction. I have also sometimes used willow bark in alcohol. These have been successful.
However, I am thinking that I should reduce my sugar intake and wonder how much sugar is in the alcohol based tinctures? I know that in your Wise Woman Way menopause book (my bible) you usually recommend the alcohol based tinctures rather than teas or capsules.
You are a breath of healing and sanity. Thank you.
Best Wishes,
S.
In answer to your questions, Susun is against removing fillings as doing so releases the mercury into your body - best to simple let them be.
Glad to hear that you have found relief in taking the tinctures. There is not enough sugar in them to be concerned about and often times teas and capsules can cause harm or simply be ineffective, so I would continue with tinctures as you have been.
Feel free to write back if you need any further assistance. Enjoy you day listening to the waves!
Blessings,
Kim

Dear Kim,
In our last e-mail exchange, you suggested if I had any health questions to contact you.
I am 67 years old and wondering about how I can best acquire vitamin D. I am in the sun for about 15 minutes a day at 8:00 AM without sunscreen.
I eat small amounts of canned salmon but eat or drink no fortified products such as milk or orange juice. I alternate the 5 herbal infusions Susun suggests on a daily basis, but it is my understanding that there is no herbal source for vitamin D.
I am concerned about supplementing my diet with fish oils such as cod liver oil because of the possibility of mercury contamination and getting too much Vitamin A . I do not take a multiple vitamin.
Would you be so kind as to tell me what Susun Weed thinks is the best way of supplementing my vitamin D intake?
Thank you very much for your interest and time.
Best Wishes,
S.
Depending on the strength of the sun, 15 minutes outside a day with no sunscreen will give you the recommended levels of Vitamin D. Also eating egg yolks, butter, liver and then the fatty fish such as mackerel, sardines, herrings, salmon and also shrimp.
Nettles is listed as a source of Vitamin D. If you are fearful about the fish, how about making sure you incorporate nettle in your diet. Eating the fresh greens and drinking infusions, but not in other forms as the tea and capsules are ineffective. Let me know if you need anything else.
warm regards,
Kim
