Hi Susun,
How are you? I am 36 years old and recently gave birth to a healthy baby boy, I would like to breastfeed him but unfortunately did not lactate, I had a lump on both of my breast and had surgery (benign, thank God!) I tried breast pump for 2 weeks but only got 30 mls and that's about it nothing came out after that. Its been 3 months since i gave birth, do you think I could still lactate and what do you recommend?
Thank you for your time.
Rona from Kanata
Hello Rona,
Re-lactation is definitely possible - Even without giving birth, such as mothers who adopt are able to produce milk. You need breast stimulation (keep up with the pumping) and lactation-promoting herbs. If you are no longer producing any milk, be patience as it may take a bit of time -- and yes, most likely just a few drops to begin, but if you stick with it, you should start producing milk again ... I've linked to a few sources, including an article that Susun has for breastfeeding and that include herbs that you will want to look at such as fennel, red raspberry infusions and blessed thistle. I would definitely do both the herbs and stimulation...

(This one has some good points, but does include pharmaceuticals to take -- personally, I'd stick with the herbs Susun mentions)

Have you been in touch with your midwife or doctor? They should have resources for lactation consultations who can help as well. You might be able to find assistance at the resouces below as well:
