I have purchased Susan Weed's Child bearing years book which is fantastic.
However I am really confused about the conflicting advice given outside the book on drinking nettle and red raspberry leaf tea. Some say it should be avoided and both are on lists of herbs to avoid. Could you please help advise?
I'm a big fan of natural herbs and am family planning. I drink herbal teas everyday and use them in my cooking so knowing what I can have during pregnancy is very important to me.
Thanks for your help.
Best wishes
Kamal from the UK.
Hello Kamal,
You will find many, many herbs on people's list of ones to avoid during pregnancy. Most of these plants are not extensively studied, hence they err on the side of caution -- often to the extreme.
All I can say is that neither nettles nor red raspberry leaf are on Susun's list of herbs to avoid. If you are using them in the form of infusions, the effects are most often quite gentle as they are a food. If it were me, as long as I was using them as infusions,
I would not have a problem with including them in my diet -- and I have personally done so during pregnancy. In the end, you do need to decide what you are comfortable with...
blessings,
