Dear Susun,
My husband and I are planning a fourth baby. Since the birth of our last baby nearly four years ago I haven't been 100% healthwise, a week of migraine headache premenstrually every three weeks (since the breastfeeding stopped a year ago) and generally very tired and borderline aneamic.. have tried with diet to get stronger and trying also to stop eating too much chocolate (I'm not overweight but have had problems with overactive thyroid in the past).
So as you can imagine I just want to be as fit and healthy as possible for my children.. I discovered your book for The Childbearing Year and like it very much.. also I've seen you on youtube and feel very inspired. I just wondered if you think what I'm doing is ok... I really love the red clover blossoms so drink about three cups a day of that and the nettle I have a glass of that when I wake up in the morning.. do you think those quantities are ok? Also, if we do make a baby would it be ok to carry on with the red clover or would I need to stop that and start raspberry leaf infusions instead? (It says on the mountain rose website that you should not drink red clover when pregnant or lactating).
I like the sound of the oatstraw too but would it be too much to add that to the daily infusions I am drinking at the moment?
I would be very grateful if you could give me any advice.. I have just ordered your other wisewoman herbal and am looking forward to reading it.. my husband is having the infusions too!
Many Thanks,
Greetings,
You are off to a good start! With the infusions, Susun recommends alternating them from day to day with a standard daily dosage of 2 cups, (16 oz), for a person weighing between 125-150 lbs. So best to have nettle one day, red clover the next, etc. Yes, some do not recommend red clover during pregnancy, due to phytoestrogens it contains. Susun does not have it on her list of herbs to avoid and we know of many from personal experience who continued to drink it with no problems. You must decide for yourself if it feels right. However, transitioning over to Red Raspberry Leaf infusion would be very beneficial for your pregnancy and you would not have to worry. Adding oatstraw would be fine as well.
