Q: What about primrose oil for fibroids? Can you recommend a acupuncturist or naturpath in New York? I have a very large fibroid and I am at my last straw?
A: Hello thank you for writing. I hear your strong desire to find solutions for your concern. Have you had a chance to read Susun Weed's article about fibroids? There are many suggestions in here for you to try, as you seek to strengthen your health. From my learning with Susun, I have come to adopt the Six Steps of Healing when looking at how to approach a concern. You can read a bit more on this here. Basically, this allows us to work at something methodically, starting with the least invasive answers first, working our way up only as far as we need. My first thought would be to suggest you try the more nourishing approaches in the "fibroids" article that you have not yet tried. However, I do not know the size or location of your fibroid and the urgency of the situation. Sometimes more invasive procedures are necessary perhaps. I leave it to your judgment the urgency, and whether you have time to try some longer working gentler solutions like Vitex tincture (mentioned in the article). Evening Primrose oil, as a supplement, would fall under step 5: use drugs/supplements.

Q: I read conflicting articles about evening Primrose. I have read that it is estrogenic promoting your article reads that it helps minimize fibroids?? confusing?
A: I know there is such an incredible amount of information out there and much is conflicting, needing us more than ever to learn to tune in to our inner knowing. This can be our knowing about what we choose to ingest, as well as who we choose to trust. I hear you that it's confusing, I can certainly understand. I am curious what article of Susun's says that evening primrose helps minimize fibroids. I could not find this.
One thing I did find that may help to clear up some confusion is the mention of two unrelated plants - primrose and evening primrose. The first is the Primula species and the second is Oenothera biennis. They are even from two different families. The former is mentioned in the following quote from Susun's New Menopausal Years (p.136):
The beautiful spring primrose (Primula veris) offers relief from menopausal headaches if taken regularly. The golden carpet of Schlesselblume on Bavarian pastures and roadsides is one of my favorite memories of Germany. If you don't visit or live in Bavaria, you can grow and gather the blossoms of Primula officinalis instead; they're also a good source of pain-killing salicyn. Make a tea of the dried flowers and drink several cups a day for some months. CAUTION: Sip your first cup mindfully and slowly, as some folks are allergic to primrose. NOTE: The roots of most primroses contain oil-soluble estrogenic factors and cell-softening saponins, suggesting use as an ointment for tender, dry vaginal tissue.
The bold is mine. I wonder if what you have read about the estrogenic factors was really about Primrose and not Evening primrose; perhaps even someone else confused the information. From Susun's books and even after doing a quick web search I found numerous references to evening primrose oil being rich in gammalinoleic acid, an essential fatty acid, and none linking it with estrogen concerns (though my search was brief). On the internet is where I found the overwhelming belief that this Evening Primrose oil is beneficial for those trying to reduce or eliminate fibroids.
Again, I understand your concerns and confusion. Especially as you are so strongly wanting to find a solution to your fibroid concern. I do hope this information, along with the resource mentioned in our previous correspondence, helps clear some of the confusion. As always, feel free to write if I can help any further!

Thank you Karen for your helpful and informative additions. I too am trying to shrink a large fibroid as naturally as possible. I had abdominal surgery to remove a large one last year and don't wish to go through that again. I'm also hoping to get pregnant before this new fibroid grows any bigger. Any advice would be much appreciated.
