Q: Hi,
I hope you can answer my question as soon as possible. I'm 3 months pregnant and have been told that my uterus is low. I've been reading great things about the red raspberry leaf tea. On the other hand, I've been reading to stay away from this tea of herb during pregnancy. Some sites say you can drink it but only during the last 10 weeks to bring on labour and induce contractions. so if I drink this now, will it bring on contractions? Your website has been the most reassuring one but it doesn`t mention anything about possible contractions, etc. Can drinking this herbal tea affect the baby in a negative way? I've been searching for answers to these questions. Please help me. I'm waiting anxiously for your response. Thank you so much
A: Hello, thank you for writing. I do understand your concern. I recently answered another similar question and was able to see the wide variety of opinions out there on this topic. At the time of my pregnancy I had studied only a few herbalists, Susun being the primary one. So I did not have the hesitation when choosing to drink this herb right away. In fact early on I was having cramping in the first month and read her Wise Woman Herbal for the Childbearing Year and realized the large doses of vitamin C I was taking may have been causing them. Once stopped, the contractions stop. As soon as picking up this book at this point I drank daily Red Raspberry infusions. They eased my nausea and the cramping never returned. So while I think I had a tenuous pregnancy to begin with (before the RR infusions) the Red Raspberry infusions coincided with my pregnancy feeling stronger!
As I read from Susun I also went lighter on the Red Raspberry later in my pregnancy and increased the Nettle leaf infusions. Here is my opinion, one to add to the mix.... Red Raspberry leaf infusions strengthen the uterus. This scares some who think a strong uterus will expel the baby prematurely. I think that is entirely untrue. A strong uterus will hold the baby firmly until it is ready to come out, then have the strength for a wonderful birth. Also those who view this herb as forcing the uterus to contract may wish to increase the herb later in pregnancy to force the uterus to do its job. Instead I see Red Raspberry as an ally to the uterus who is wise in itself and does not need forcing, just support so it can do its job optimally.
As you hear the many ideas out there, and perhaps sit with the plant, live or dried, and even perhaps sip on the tea or infusion, I trust what you feel to be the best choice for your body and your pregnancy. We are all unique.
Blessings,
Karen Joy

Hello,I am in my fifth week of pregnancy. This cycle I got pregnant I starting taking 2 Red Raspberry Leaf pills daily which comes to a dosage of 960mg of RRL daily. I read it could help tone the uterus. I am now uneasy about continuing it now for fear that it could actually in some cause problems but I am unsure if it is safe to suddenly stop it? I asked my OBGYN and he has no idea. Thank you.
