Hi Susun. My son will be 6 in July. I am interested in your day
workshops but I can't/won't leave him for that long. We live
northeast of Saratoga Springs so the commute extends the time
significantly. I love your books and I have been reading everything
about alternative/herbal healing that I can find.
My interest has gotten very keen as I have been developing more
allergies (or sensitivities) as I age. I had sinus headaches through
my teens, 20's and early 30's. When I developed a skin rash from
using a perfumed soap I eliminated all perfume and the headaches are
history! Latex also causes a rash for me and the "herstory" of that
needs to be told to as many women as possible.
I worked on dairy farms during college and used latex gloves daily for
as long as the milking took. My hands were dry and chapped but as I
was doing manual labor I thought nothing of it. When I started having
intercourse at 29 yrs old, (combined "HIStory" of sexual abuse and
evangelical religeon) I also started having urinary tract infections.
Since I had never had a UTI before I asked a doctor (no health
insurance) if it could be the latex condoms. She said no so I
continued to use them. Over a period of 18 months I had 9 UTI's,
taking antibiotics for each one. I finally said enough and I went on
the pill since my boyfriend and I were monogamous. The pill, of
course, can contribute to yeast infection, particularly in someone who
has taken antibiotics for extended periods. Yeast infection was
followed by bacterial infection in regular intervals for another year
and several months.
When I finally got medical insurance and was able to see the same
gynocologist from one episode to the next my treatment at least became
consistent. She put me on a combination of fluconazol and metrogel.
These became my only means of staying well. If I wasnt taking one
then I was taking the other. Sex was miseable.
By this time my vagina was steril and severly thinned. I began using
yogurt sitz baths and cleaning my vagina with a finger in the shower,
(in place of douching). Slowly I was able to stop using the drugs.
I came to believe over the course of this experience that doctors do
NOT know everything! I want to take responsibility for my own
health! I now have 41 years to my name and I feel it's time.
Perfume, latex, nickle, and some medications have caused reactions in
me. I am also gluten and lactose intolerant. With lactaid I can eat
dairy without digestive upset but I still retain water, so I don't
usually include it in my diet.
If children are not permitted in the day classes it's ok. I am still
interested in any comments or suggestions you feel appropriate.
Thanks for your time.
Blessings, X
Hello X, So nice to hear of your interest to come study with Susun!! She does allow people to bring their young children, understanding the responsibilities of parents, as long as your child will be with you and not disruptive to the class.
Susun does not have internet to be able to correspond through email, so if you prefer to speak with her directly about having your son come to a particular class please phone her during office hours, Wednesdays 11am to 4pm Eastern time, 845-246-8081.
Our words our powerful - "I have been developing more
allergies (or sensitivities) as I age" sounds like you will continue to develop new allergies for the rest of your life. It sounds more from your story you have gotten to know yourself more intimately as you have grown, and have discovered allergies you already had.... not that new ones developed. This shows you as caring for yourself and wise, rather than one get more and more sensitive to her environment as time goes on.
Know that many have found that what we thought was a dairy or gluten allergy has less to do with the original product as it does with how it is consequently prepared. In both cases fermentation makes wheat and milk much more easy to assimilate, and even beneficial to us.
In the case of yogurt the process of making it digests most if not all of the lactose out. And you know the benefits of yogurt I hear. Plus fresh milk that has not had all its inherent bacteria destroyed by high heats and not been homogenized outside of the animal, is far easier for many to digest!
Gluten allergies have developed more recently and grown, both as more people lack sufficient gut flora to digest foods well, and as we are consuming mostly, or completely, wheat products that have not been fermented first with an aircaught yeast - often called sourdough. Packaged dry yeast that makes for a quick rise is very definitely not the same.
