Hello
I have been doing extensive research on the internet and I was wondering whether you could help me. I am 8 weeks pregnant and have had an upper respitory infection for over 4 weeks; I was wondering whether you had any information about grapefruit seed extract and if it is safe to use during pregnancy. I love your work and books.
Thanks for your time
I believe Susun would not suggest using grapefruit seed extract, at any time, especially not when pregnant. Have you been working with Echinacea tincture? Elecampane tincture? Elderberry tincture? Mullein leaf infusion? Garlic and Honey? Susun likes to use nourishing herbs to both prevent or cure illnesses. She has many articles and youtube videos at her site on these herbs and how to use them for preventative and remedial situations.
Susun is unable to answer email questions as she is devoting her time to her forthcoming book, “Down There, reproductive health for women and men” due out soon. She has just started offering telephone consultations. If you are interested, go to: www.herbalmedicinehealing.com/store/ You might also go to the Wise Woman Forum to ask your question in case a member can offer you help: www.susunweed.com/wisewomanforum.htm

When I came down with a serious sinus infection while pregnant, my OB had me use a Neti Pot to drain my mucas. Along with the packet of salt crystals the pot comes with, she had me add 1 capful of hydrogen peroxide (to remove oxygen from the nasal cavity which would kill the bacteria) and the warm water of course. Took a few weeks but worked well... The Neti Pot is a lifesaver! Found it at my local CVS Pharmacy, on the shelf... best of luck to you!

Grapefruit seed extract is wonderful, but I'm not sure whether or not it is safe either during pregnancy. I don't know why the author would not recommend it at any time.
