Q: Aloha Susun! We have been blessed with a new baby girl. In the mean time, my sister is healing from her major perineal tear. She tore from the outside and up the vaginal canal. I'm wondering if you will advice me with herbs, ideas to promote supportive healing. She also lost blood to where she was on IV for 2 days, borderline loss to having a transfusion. She is still pale colored and weak. Has appetite for carbohydrates and ice cream! Intaking lots of fluid... H2O, juices. She wants to leave the birthing center tomorrow. I am praying and providing her what she feels she needs. Thank you for your time and thank you for teaching us all the beautiful wise womyn ways!
A: Hello M., congratulations!! I have understood comfrey leaf to be superb for this, the tear. Taken internally as infusions and externally sitting in very regular sitz baths of it, once strained of course until the open wound heals. Also she may find that Nettle leaf infusions will help tremendously with her recovery. It is what I recommend for large blood loss, or any other electrolyte needs. She had both. And of course any iron rich foods. I trust her cravings and would be sure to make sure the carbs contain the best available nutrition, same with the fluids.
I am sorry Susun is not available to reply herself. She does not have internet in her home so is rarely able to correspond through email.
All our best wishes for your sister and her new little one!
Blessings,
Karen Joy
